Kangaroo Island Children’s Services Child Care (KICSCC) offers high quality care and education to children through Long Day Care, Preschool and a Department of Social Services (DSS) funded Children and Parenting Support Programme. The services operate 50 weeks of the year Monday to Friday.
KICSCC is seeking a self motivated person with a passion for providing support to children and their families, with excellent team work and communication skills to coordinate the Parenting KI program.
Role
To develop strong relationships with individual children and families, address their specific needs and coordinate support and home visiting as required.
To mentor and oversee the playgroup Support Worker to coordinate playgroups across Kangaroo Island by providing a sound knowledge of child development and a foundational level of understanding of the Early Years Framework principles and practices.
To liaise and maintain strong links with professional service providers of health, education and social services, linking them with families as required and to coordinate parent development opportunities for families in consultation with families, key community contacts and other professional service providers.
To oversee the Parenting KI Borrowing Library, manage the purchasing and updating of resources and maintain the website platform.
Responsibilities
To develop and maintain strong working relationships with families of children 0-12 (and up to 18 if required) across Kangaroo Island, particularly those at risk of disadvantage.
To meet the Department of Social Services activity and reporting requirements, collecting and analysing the relevant statistics and data and maintaining the budget and financial aspects of the program.
To develop and maintain strong working relationships with local health, education and social service providers and work with them to advocate for the needs of Kangaroo Island children and their families.
To adhere to all KICSCC policies including, maintaining confidentiality, ensuring a child safe environment, and appropriate interactions with children, families and other employees, and have input into the KICSCC Strategic Plan.
Essential requirements
Senior First Aid or willingness to undertake training
Child Safe Environment – RRHAN-EC updated training or willingness to undertake training
Current working with children check or willingness to consent to a check
Current Australian driver’s license
Sound understanding of child development
High level of interpersonal skills
Ability to work in isolation
Ability to collaborate successfully with other agencies
Competent computing and budgeting skills
Desirable
Diploma or Higher in Early childhood Education, Social Work, Health &/or Project Management
Experience working collaboratively with inter-agencies
Experience working to support vulnerable and/ or disadvantaged children and families
Understanding of current WHS practices
Other current training and development related to the position
Foundational understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards
Terms of employment
Contract January 15th 2023 until 30th June 2025 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disabilities Services Industry Award 2010, reporting to the Director of Kangaroo Island Children’s Services Child Care (as the sponsoring body).
The hours of employment will be 42 hours/fortnight. Office based in Kingscote. Some out of hours work and intrastate travel will be required and renumerated accordingly.
