About Pastoral Services
The Cabrini Pastoral and Bereavement team supports patients, families and staff and respond to the spiritual and emotional needs of people as needed.

About the role
The Pastoral Care Practitioner Grade 1 will work closely with the Pastoral Care Manager and be responsible for the delivery of high quality, culturally safe, person-centred spiritual and emotional care that addresses the needs of patients and families. The role also involves offering grief and bereavement support for families.

We are seeking an experienced clinical pastoral care practitioner who is available to work four days per week at Cabrini Malvern including two days in palliative care. The shifts are from 8.30am to 4.36pm with the possibility of one late shift from 9.30am to 5.36pm. Available for ‘on call’ weekend shifts and public holidays as required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to provide person-centred coordinated care.
  • Undertaking spiritual assessments and monitoring the response to spiritual interventions.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation that comply with Cabrini’s policies and best practice standards.
  • Liaising with the Extended Ministry Team (volunteers) and faith chaplains as needed to meet the spiritual and religious needs of patients.
  • Offering bereavement support and information for families.

About You
You will be warm and compassionate with past experience in delivering pastoral care services in a palliative care setting.

You will also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in theology or pastoral care or relevant field of studies.
  • Supervised training in providing spiritual care.
  • Proficient computer skills and competent in documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Passionate about providing holistic pastoral care in a multi-faith healthcare setting.
  • Empathic and approachable with excellent communication skills.
  • Accredited as a Eucharistic Minister (desirable).
  • Eligibility for membership of Spiritual Care Australia.
