The Position
St John of God Hawkesbury District Health Service is a teaching hospital in Windsor NSW, providing acute, community and allied health services for the local community and surrounding areas. Our 131-bed healthcare facility is operated by St John of God Health Care and provides public patient services under a public-private partnership with the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
The Pastoral Practitioner works as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team for the provision of holistic pastoral services to patients and clients. The role will be responsible for the provision of emotional and spiritual support, theological reflection, ritual facilitation, faith/belief integration, establishing pastoral therapeutic relationships, trauma and grief counselling and emotional intelligence.
This is position is being offered on a permanent part-time basis, working 23 hours per week. For those willing to work across multiple locations increased hours are available.
The successful candidate will have:
- A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
- Completed, or working towards a tertiary level qualification/studies in a relevant field (such as Social work, Counselling, Pastoral, Nursing)
- and/or
- Prior experience in the provision of pastoral care in a relevant setting including SJGHC pastoral internship program and/or supervised pastoral field placement and professional development courses relevant to pastoral practice.
- Demonstrated capability and competence in the establishment of therapeutic pastoral relationships with patients and clients from a variety of faith, cultural and social backgrounds.
- Demonstrated capacity in delivering ritual, liturgy, prayer or reflection that respects others cultural and religious beliefs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to contribute positively to a multidisciplinary team within the professional boundaries of the role.
- Flexibility with working hours including the ability and preparedness to undertake evening/weekend shift/on call duties as required.
