Your Opportunity

The Townsville Youth Foyer is an integrated learning and accommodation model supporting young people aged 16-25 at risk of or, experiencing homelessness. Located in Pimlico, The Foyer provides forty, one-bedroom units , fully furnished for eligible participants for up to 24 months.

Townsville Youth Foyer is a culturally safe, inclusive, and diverse environment where Young People feel safe and supported to achieve their dreams. Using the “Advantage Thinking” approach, The Foyer provides coaching and support across the following six key Services: Education and Training; Employment; Health and Wellbeing; Social Connections; Civic Participation; Housing (maintaining a good tenancy).

The Pathways Specialist collaborates with the Program Manager to develop and implement opportunities for youth engagement in education, entrepreneurship, apprenticeships, and more. This role involves case management, overseeing daily operations at the Youth Foyer, and liaising with stakeholders, suppliers, Mission Australia Housing, and the local community.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Create, coordinate, maintain and facilitate structured career and employment guidance
  • Facilitate group workshops and one to one guidance sessions for youth within the Foyer community
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; employment and training providers, schools, universities, TAFE etc.
  • Provide coaching and positive engagement to assist young people to achieve their goals as detailed in their personalised coaching plan.
  • Support young people to identify short and long-term life and career and study goals.

Requirements for Success

  • Relevant degree or associate diploma and/or experience working with young people and/or homelessness
  • A good understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged young people in Townsville regarding housing
  • Experience working successfully with young people from low-socio economic, homeless, and culturally diverse groups
  • Knowledge of services for young people in Townsville and pathways for education and employment
  • Experience supporting young people in a trauma informed and culturally appropriate way
  • Willing to work weekends and after hours to deliver programs and services for young people on a rostered basis
  • Valid QLD Blue Card
