JOB DESCRIPTION

You will support children and adults to participate fully in life by providing high quality, culturally appropriate behaviour support services to people with a disability who have a specific support need. We provide services in line with individual NDIS plans; your role is responsible for assessment, planning, monitoring and review of client outcomes. This role is part of the Healthy Mind Australia Clinical team that deliver professional assessment and support for people with a disability.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide direct assistance to individuals and their families to assess clients’ needs and develop creative strategies to address client need and family support.
  • An ability to communicate and appropriately respond to needs of people of all abilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all allocated referrals and be able to work within a multi-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary framework.
  • Develop and implement positive behaviour support plans using informal and formal techniques that are compliant with the requirements of the NDIS Restrictive Practices and Behaviour Support Rules 2018.
  • Work with families, allied health staff, and community members to enhance the choice, social civic and community participation and quality of life for Healthy Mind Australia’s clients.
  • Demonstrate interviewing techniques and assessment skills to highlight and support client needs.
  • Develop appropriate strategies and resources that promote and support our clients to build capacity in independent living skills and emotional/social/behavioural awareness.
  • Developing and implementing interim and comprehensive behaviour support plans.
  • An ability to provide a service based on a client’s NDIS goals and funding allocation.

 

Key skills, knowledge and attributes:

  • Experience in providing direct assistance to individuals with complex needs including assessment of client needs, the coordination of supports and the provision of family support.
  • Previous industry experience working in organisations who support people with a disability.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the complex support issues for people with secondary disabilities (physical, sensory and psychiatric).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behaviour support plans and least restrictive practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ages and stage of human development across the lifespan as well as physical, cognitive, and social growth issues related to human development.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating developmental programs with an emphasis on functional skill enhancement.
  • Knowledge to promote active support and a personal centred approach when supporting people with a disability.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt communication style to specific needs of individuals or groups – high level of emotional intelligence.
     

Essential requirements of the role:

  • A Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology, Disability and Developmental Education or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in the delivery of positive behaviour support services to children, young people and people with intellectual disabilities in an NDIS Space.
  • Current member of the AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers), DEAI (Developmental Educators Australia Incorporated) or Australian Association of Psychologists.
  • Eligibility to be registered as a NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner.
  • DHS Disability Services Employment Screening clearance and Working with Children Check.
  • SA Drivers Licence.
