Learn about the position:

As our new AOD Peer Practitioner, while working in a primary care setting, you will draw on your lived experience to engage with individuals and their families/carers across the program’s full spectrum of care.

You will be responsible for:

  • Engaging with clients and their families/carers/supports with the aim to support client engagement, retention, motivation and stability before, during and after a treatment
  • Supporting comprehensive care for clients alongside the AOD Service program team through peer based supports
  • The successful incumbent will have experienced AOD substance dependence and be able to demonstrate successful management and maintenance over an extensive period of time.

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with the practice principles of peer work to use own lived experience, and experiential knowledge to share information, skills and strategies that support and promote therapeutic optimism with clients, families, carers and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in the provision of peer support for people who have AOD dependence and the provision of psychosocial supports and non-crisis interventions to AOD clients and families/friends.
  • Has experienced AOD substance dependence as well as demonstrated successful management and maintenance over an extensive period of time.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment.

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Certificate IV or higher in Alcohol and Other Drugs (or equivalent)
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent is desirable
  • Allied Health Qualification ie  Social Work, or Occupational Therapy, or relevant undergraduate tertiary qualification ie psychology and experience in the AOD sector is desirable
  • Current Working with Children Check or willing to obtain
  • Current Child Safe Environments or willing to obtain
