Peer Recovery Worker – Part-time

Peer Recovery Workers provide an understanding of the experience of living with a mental health challenge and assist people to connect, feel validated, and supported to strive for the recovery outcomes they hope to achieve. Inspire is the Fiona Stanley Hospital Mental Health Service provides Lived Experience mental health, alcohol and other drug (AOD) Peer workers as part of a multidisciplinary team to support consumers, carers, and families while in the hospital.

Peer workers provide a unique perspective and offer hope to individuals on their recovery journey by showing that recovery is possible. Through shared understanding, Peer workers help people feel supported, connect, grow resilience and enhance wellbeing.

The service is based at the Emergency Department and the State Rehabilitation Service at Fiona Stanley Hospital, with Peer support workers visiting patients as required. This project is made possible thanks to funding from the Mental Health Commission.

We are seeking a part-time Peer Recovery Worker to join our Inspire Team! The position will work weekdays 8am-4pm. This is a fixed-term position, until 30 June 2024 with the possibility of an extension based on funding.

  • The salary will be at a level 4 of the SCHADS award. Starting at $82,307 pro-rata per annum, depending on experience.

Who are we looking for? 

It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following: 

  • The position requires a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work/Peer Skillset (minimum of 75% completion).
  • Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the three guiding principles of the organisation
  • Lived experience of recovery from mental health and/or a Cultural peer perspective.
  • Willingness to identify as a person with lived experience working in a peer support role.
  • An understanding of peer work in a community setting.
  • Openness to continuous quality improvement and learning in this role.
  • A great attitude and commitment to your team, colleagues, clients, and the organisation.
  • Ability to engage with individuals within different levels of needs and build and maintain a professional relationship
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to the functioning of the team.
  • Ability to model positive behaviours, emotional maturity, coping skills and resilience.
  • Good interpersonal and effective communication skills.
  • Understanding of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and client reporting system. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture.

 Required Compliance Documents

  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Certificate
  • Hospital required vaccinations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella (Chickenpox), Hepatitis B and Pertussis/Diphtheria/Tetanus). The successful candidate will receive the hospital screening form containing all the details regarding vaccinations.

Candidate Notice: Ruah works with vulnerable clients in a range of health/hospital, public access, and client home locations. As a result, employees are required to have certain immunisations, including for COVID-19 even in the absence of public health orders. This is important for both client and staff health and safety controls. An applicant and/or new employee will be required to provide evidence of their immunisation status in accordance with Ruah’s Immunisation Procedure – a copy of which can be provided upon request. 

There are additional vaccination requires for hospital sites that will be discussed during onboarding.
