Peer Support Coach – Mental Health – Part time Uniting NSW & ACT

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Peer Support Coach is responsible for appropriately applying personal lived experiences with mental health recovery to aid consumers in reaching their recovery goals.  This includes providing education, training, and individual support services, to promote a personally meaningful recovery.

  • Part time position in Chatswood – 1 day per week

The Adult community Mental Health service of Uniting provides early intervention and wrap-around mental health services to adults in the community with the aim of minimising the impact and distress caused by the experience of mental health conditions to consumers and their families.  

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure every service users experience is recovery-focused and follows client-led goals through the development of a peer support coaching relationship
  • Model coach and problem solve with clients based upon peer ‘lived experiences’ of mental health recovery
  • Provide a range of peer support coaching sessions via face-to-face sessions, peer support groups and community focused events.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience in related industry, service, or equivalent level of experience to activities required
  • The incumbent has ‘lived experience’ of recovery from psychosis/severe mental illness
  • Comprehensive understanding of the recovery process and ability to appropriately communicate a lived experience
  • Flexibility in coping with organisational change and demonstrated ability to be innovative in clinical approaches with young people.
  • Ability to maintain the philosophy, standards and policies of the program model and the organisation and to promote the recovery of young people
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Mental Health Act (2007) 
  • Current NSW Driver’s license

Desirable Criteria:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or equivalent
