Peer Support Worker – Serenity Lodge Therapeutic Community

About the role: 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Peer Support Worker to join our team.

As part of an important service enhancement at Serenity Lodge, we are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to employ a full-time Peer Support Worker at the service. 

The role will provide Cyrenian House consumers in treatment at Serenity Lodge (Therapeutic Community and Serenity Withdrawal Unit) ongoing and follow up support, from the perspective of a peer with lived experience of alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and recovery.  This role requires a high level of commitment to recovery and peer support values.  

The role of Peer Support worker is to provide Cyrenian House consumers with the benefit of strength-based, person centred support.

The Peer Support Worker offers consumers connection, hope and optimism; role modelling that recovery is possible.   

The successful applicant should have their own personal recovery of AOD with a minimum of 2 years clean time. 

Requirements for the role are:

  • Have lived experience of own AOD use and recovery and or
  • Have lived experience of a family members AOD use and recovery (Family Peer Support Worker)
  • Demonstrate maintenance of own personal recovery and willingness to safely share own story and experience of the recovery process. 
  • Abstinent from AOD use for a minimum of 24 months.
  • Non-judgemental and open to different approaches to AOD recovery. 
  • Demonstrated and well developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
  • A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to take appropriate individual and team responsibility.
  • Full current Drivers Licence, current First Aid Certificate and COVID Vaccination Certificate.
