Health Voyage Services and Programs
The Coffs Harbour Women’s Health Centre, headspace Coffs Harbour, and headspace Grafton are the three primary services of Health Voyage. In addition, Health Voyage from time to time may have other ancillary programs (either within these services or in addition to) that are aligned to the organisation’s mission. Across these services and programs, Health Voyage employs and contracts health professionals and service providers to deliver care aligned to the organisation’s mission and values.

About headspace the Role:
headspace is part of the National Youth Mental Health Foundation program providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing (www.headspace.org.au). This is achieved through the Federal Government’s funding of headspace services throughout Australia via Healthy North Coast Ltd (Primary Health Network). These Centres provide an entry point for young people to access a broad range of (well-integrated) services.
headspace Coffs Harbour aims to:
- promote early identification of mental health concerns
- provide effective, evidence-based interventions;
- improve and facilitate access to mental health services; and
- have specialist providers and primary health care working together within an accessible and integrated service framework.
The Peer Support Worker will use their lived experiences of mental health recovery to support others and help others navigate their mental health challenges. They will inspire, model and inform others in similar situation to support them in finding their own path of recovery. They will inspire, model and inform others in similar situations to support them in developing their own recovery path. The Peer Support Worker will provide open, appropriate and effective support to young people accessing or considering connection with headspace services, both at the Centre and out in the community. They will also provide support to the families and carers of young people who are seeking support.

- As a not-for-profit non-government organisation, Health Voyage can offer eligible employees salary package benefits of up to $15,900 per annum + an additional $2,500 in meals, entertainment and holiday accommodation per annum.

Desired Skills and Experience:
Ideally our preferred candidate will have ability and experience in engaging with a diverse group of young people, and confidence in working with groups of people at meetings, events and activities. Other criteria required is:
Essential
- A lived experience of mental health issues (self or other)
- Practical knowledge and understanding of issues facing young people with a mental health issues, and the family, friends and carers of young people with mental health issues
- An ability to carry out duties whilst understanding professional boundaries and maintaining privacy and confidentiality
- Ability and capacity to listen and acknowledge discussion of mental health issues in a compassionate, non-judgmental way
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge and experience within culturally diverse communities and the ability to initiate, interact and maintain relationships with young people, their families, friends and carers in a culturally diverse community
- Demonstrated ability to liaise with service providers and work in a team environment
- Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and database applications
- Ability to manage own well-being including the identification of strategies for staying well whilst working
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Mental Health or Mental Health Peer Work
- Current First Aid Certificate willingness to obtain one
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field
- Experience in providing recovery-orientated psychosocial support to vulnerable populations (e.g., people with a disability; children or young people; the elderly).
- Current Drivers license
