Who are we?
Lifeline Gippsland is a charity that has been saving lives since 1968 and is an integral part of the National Lifeline network. Our vision is an Australia free of suicide, where no one has to face their darkest moment alone. Our purpose is to support Australians in times of crisis with access to 24-hour Crisis Support and to support Gippsland to be more resilient and suicide-safe through the delivery of mental health and suicide prevention services.
The Opportunity
Lifeline Gippsland is embarking on an exciting initiative in partnership with the Latrobe Health Assembly to establish a brand new service in Morwell. Based on the Safe Haven Cafe model originating in the UK, the service will provide a safe and welcoming space to people experiencing mental health concerns or emotional distress. Currently in the establishment phase, the service will provide a therapeutic space that is non-threatening, non-clinical, warm and responsive and offers support and linkages through contact with Peer Support Workers. This service will also provide support to families and carers and is accessible to anyone 16 years and older.
A community-led, co-design approach has informed this initiative and is guided by an amazing group of people with lived experience. Maintaining engagement with existing partners and identifying new stakeholders will be key to the success of this model.
