About the service

Dianella Cottage has offices in Katoomba and Lithgow and provides trauma-informed, evidence-based alcohol and drug counselling, groups, case management, outreach and Aftercare.

 

About the role

The Peer Support Worker role honours and harnesses the unique and invaluable learnings of the lived experience of mental health challenges, treatment, and the recovery journey. This role-modelling and relatability provides clients with hope and optimism about their own circumstances and recovery journey, and valuable tools to help them on their way and collaborates with our clients to provide initial assessment and effective peer connections within recovery-oriented and trauma informed frameworks.

This position is embedded in the clinical service and provides support alongside clinicians under a shared care framework. Peer Support is a core component of the treatment and support options available to our clients.

This is a permanent part time opportunity, working 22.8 hours per week.

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide high quality engagement and support services to clients and their families using evidence-based practice principles
  • Facilitate a range of peer-support and therapeutic group programs
  • Practice in a manner that complies with relevant standards and guidelines
  • Form and develop partnerships with key stakeholders and facilitate the intake and assessment process in collaboration with other service providers
  • Work with clients – and, where appropriate, their families – to develop, implement and review individual treatment goals, which include discharge plans

About you

The successful candidate will share our passion and commitment to service delivery excellence.  Additionally, you will possess the following:

  • A lived experience of substance use recovery and treatment in an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service
  • Previous experience in a Peer Support role or similar consumer support or lived experience role in an AOD service
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in working considerately and non-judgmentally with people from diverse backgrounds, experiencing complex challenges
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating or co-facilitating recovery or support groups
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Programs; Word, Excel,
  • Certificate 4 in Alcohol and Other Drugs or similar and Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed care practice will be highly regarded.

The base salary range per annum for this role is $67,263.04 – $72,124.00 (pro rata) dependent on skills, qualifications and experience.

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent  to have a personal lived experience of substance dependence and or Mental ill-health, service use and recovery.
