Peer Support Worker Redcliffe Youth Space

JOB DESCRIPTION

We need to hire some amazing people to support our Safe Space program as Peer Support Workers.

We aren’t looking for people with fancy formal qualifications. We need everyday people who are great non-judgemental listeners who want to help people in our community.

Run out of our space at Redcliffe, the Safe Space program provides a welcoming and supportive place for people experiencing psychological distress.

As a Safe Space Peer Support Worker, you will:

  • Greet clients and ensure they feel welcome and safe in the space.
  • Talk to clients to understand why they’ve come along and what support they might need.
  • Provide social and emotional support by listening, problem solving and discussing helpful services that are available to them (and making a cuppa or two!).
  • Update the visitor database (with client permission) so clients don’t have to retell their story each time they visit.

You can learn more about the Safe Space program https://mymentalhealth.org.au/safespaces

This is an amazing role to start your career in mental health or community services. We’ll provide with all the training and support you need to be successful as well as support you to obtain your Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (CHC43515).

We offer:

  • Salary of $60,000 per year (full-time)
  • Penalty rates and salary sacrifice available to boost pay
  • 1.25 year contract with the possibility of extension
  • Work around your existing work, family, volunteering or study commitments with your choice of full-time, part-time or casual hours.

  • The chance to make a real difference for people in our community

We aim to reflect the diverse community which we service. We run an inclusive and accessible recruitment process and encourage people of all ages, LGBTIQA+ identities, cultural backgrounds and lived experience of disability to apply. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to better accommodate your individual needs through this process.
