JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you passionate about mental health advocacy and supporting individuals on their recovery journey? Join our dynamic team as a Peer Worker for our upcoming Mental Health Hub, based in Goulburn. As a Peer Worker, you will play a crucial role in providing support, hope, and inspiration to individuals facing mental health challenges, using your own lived experience as a valuable asset.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Flexibly engage with individuals in the Goulburn LGA requiring mental health services and provide empathetic support based on your own lived experience.
  • Foster a supportive and non-judgmental environment, promoting recovery and well-being.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals, participating in care planning and assisting with the implementation of recovery-focused interventions.
  • Share knowledge and personal experiences to empower individuals and help them develop self-advocacy skills.
  • Assist individuals in accessing community resources and services and provide information about relevant support networks.
  • Contribute to team meetings, case discussions, and training sessions, providing valuable insights from your lived experience perspective.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with organisational policies and guidelines.

 

Requirements:

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges and personal recovery is essential for this role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with individuals.
  • A strong understanding of recovery-oriented approaches and person-centered care.
  • Knowledge of the local mental health support services and community resources in Goulburn is highly desirable.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to work collaboratively within a team environment and independently when required.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or willingness to obtain it within a specified timeframe).
  • Current Working With Children Check and National Criminal Check.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and access to a vehicle.
