The Program
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in Greater Sydney, the Federal Government has funded Mental Health Hubs to:
- provide accessible, affordable mental health services and support in the community
- reduce pressure on Emergency Departments, and
- support GPs to provide treatment and care to people with mental ill health.
The One Door Mental Health Hubs are delivered through a mix of video, phone, and face to face support
About the Role
As a Peer Worker you will:
- create a space of hope, optimism, and inclusion for people who experience mental distress due to the current pandemic.
- Engage with sector-stakeholders to enhance their capacity to better support people accessing the mental health system.
- Provide soft, supported, entry into appropriate mental health supports.
- Assist in transitioning people as they move between different levels of care (Stepped Care model).
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Certificate IV in AOD, Mental Health or Peer Work, or Diploma of Community Services.
- Lived experience of mental health challenges, personal recovery, and service use and a willingness to use experience to role model recovery to support others.
- A willingness to purposefully share their personal experience to support others and to contribute to change.
- Understanding of and a commitment to the principles of peer support; inclusive of a recovery-focused approach.
- A clear awareness about selfcare and skills for prioritising self-care.
