Where you’ll be working
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What you’ll be doing
Peer workforce is vital in the support and guidance they offer to consumers and mental health services, complementing other clinical services through the insights of their lived experience. They are integral to the concept of lived experience at all levels and will effectively model hope, empathy, equality, mutuality and reciprocity, honesty, trust and empowerment.
 
The peer worker is focused on promoting a personal recovery philosophy which assists to demonstrate hope for the consumer’s recovery journey, by respecting their experience, supporting their self-determination, identifying and working toward collaborative goals, and needs promotion within their community.
 
The Peer Worker will provide advocacy for consumers within the WSLHD Perinatal, Child and Young Persons Mental Health Service (PCYMHS), ensuring a strong consumer voice so that young consumers are adequately represented.  This role will work across the district with each of the PCYMHS teams, providing peer support and advocacy to consumers, carers and families.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Have the personal experience of a mental health concern and recovery
  2. Demonstrated ability to utilize this lived experience to support others with their own mental health recovery journey within the values of peer work.
  3. Demonstrated high level communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders with differing perspectives.
  4. Excellent organisational and planning skills with proven ability to prioritise tasks
  5. Cert IV in Mental Health Peer Work minimum or willingness to work towards
  6. Experience representing a diverse range of consumer views at high level committees.
  7. Experience in developing and delivering training for health staff and the community.
  8. Have a current driver’s license and be able to work across different locations
