About the Organisation:

Perinatal Wellbeing Centre has been providing support to families in the ACT and surrounding region for over 30 years, caring for over 800 families each year, with more than 400 of those receiving ongoing support through our evidence based programs. 

The service offers a diverse range of supports to families who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, and/or are finding it challenging adjusting to parenting. Clients are welcomed from pregnancy through to their youngest child turning 2. Recent studies show that 1 in 5 women and 1 in 10 men experience perinatal anxiety and/or depression symptoms demonstrating impact on over 110,000 Australian families.

About the Role: 

We are seeking an energised and self-motivated individual to join our team to provide support via telephone and facilitate support groups. Strong skills in the areas of active listening, empathy and experience with facilitating group discussions are necessary. It is essential that the successful applicant is compassionate and has an understanding of the challenges faced by parents as they welcome a new baby into their lives.  It is a part-time role (20 hours per week negotiable) on a 12 month contract with the possibility of extension. Demonstrated interest in perinatal mental health is desirable. 

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing support via our Telephone Support Service
  • Facilitating support groups
  • Conducting intake appointments and one to one sessions
  • Providing referral where appropriate
  • Maintaining client confidentiality
  • Working collaboratively with the Perinatal Mental Health team
  • Occasional evening or outreach work may be required.

 Requirements of the Role:

  • Qualifications in Mental Health or any relevant qualification such as Psychology, Counselling or Social Work and demonstrated experience working within the Mental Health sector.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in a client support role in a team environment
  • Experience in working with clients in distress/crisis
  • Experience in helping clients via telephone support or in a group context
  • Demonstrated ability to research, plan and conduct support groups.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality with knowledge of current Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997.
  • Working with Vulnerable People registration and a Police check is a requirement for all Perinatal Wellbeing Centre staff.
  • Experience in a similar role is an advantage, however, training will be provided to the successful candidate.
