We offer more than 400 courses, from Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)/Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)/ Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS), through to nationally accredited qualifications such as certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas, degrees, graduate certificates, graduate diplomas and short courses.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be accountable providing advice and counselling services to current students at Chisholm. Personal Counsellors ensure individualised advice and secondary consultation on all matters relating to the welfare and well-being of students.  The role will support students through one-on-one appointments, group sessions and other prescribed methods of engagement.

As part of the role, the incumbent will be required to continually innovate, exploring and engaging new channels for supporting students. The counsellor is also expected to establish and maintain appropriate internal relationships that augment the support and welfare provided within the organisation, other Institute departments as well as agencies and services.

The incumbent is a key member of the Student Support and Engagement team and will promote the values of Chisholm and place the student at the centre of everything we do

Your key accountabilities will be to:

  • Liaise with individuals and teams at all levels of the organisation and across portfolios to discuss specialist matters and develop organisation solutions.
  • Design and develop solutions for workplace procedures, resources and operational issues to improve the customer experience.
  • Offer advice on student behaviour, issue escalation and critical matters to inform decision making.
  • Keep timely and accurate case notes according to professional standards and Chisholm protocols.
  • Take responsibility for the wellbeing of self, students and other staff where risk is identified.
  • Employ measured responses to student crisis and complex concerns in a demanding and changing environment.
  • Provide professional and confidential counselling to students for a range of personal, social, professional, academic and financial concerns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to build collective capacity and co-create solutions for emerging issues, time limited projects and on sustainable change activities.

ABOUT YOU

You will have a related Degree and relevant experience; or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience and specialist expertise. You may hold qualifications in psychology, counselling, welfare or community services and be eligible for registration or membership with PACFA, ACA or AASW.

Crucial to your success will be your proven track record in:

  • Short term, pragmatic counselling experience in an education setting
  • Demonstrated experience coaching staff, facilitating groups and providing colleagues with professional peer support in the counselling domain
  • Extensive experience working with culturally diverse clients in a counselling or support role
  • Knowledge of local agencies and ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships with service providers
  • Clear evidence of effective referral skills
