Footsteps Community Services (FCS) is a family owned and operated organisation. We are recruiting for experienced Positve Behaviour Support (PBS) practitioners to support our clients and families throughout their NDIS PBS Plan.

Behaviour Support Practitioners play an important role in assisting people with special behavioural or emotional needs. They use their expertise in mental health, counselling, social work, teaching, occupational therapy and social development to implement new behavioural treatment strategies to improve clients’ wellbeing.

Please understand this is not Support Work and the role requires a high degree of report writing.

Summary of the Position:

The Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner (PBSP) is responsible for the provision of high quality, professional and culturally appropriate behaviour support planning services, and delivery for people with disability, aging Australians and/or significantly disadvantaged individuals.

The practitioner is required to design and deliver appropriate interventions and plans, monitoring updating and evaluating these in line with the NDIS plan and/or individual goals, including monitoring progress and evaluate outcomes. The practitioner will work collaboratively with other agencies/providers in the delivery of services in a collaborative manner

A day in this role may include:

• Advocate for your clients, ensuring their human rights are always upheld.

• Create individualised behaviour plans that are holistic, and client focused.

• Provide support and education to clients/carers/family.

• Delivering training to teams.

• Case management.

• Conduct assessments with clients at the beginning and completion of the plan.

• Build and maintain effective relationships including attending stakeholder meetings.

• Maintain accurate and timely recordings.

• Deliver professional reports as required to external bodies, such as NDIS, Child Safety…

Accountability:

The PBSP reports directly to the Director of PBS.

Main responsibilities:

Behavioural Support Planning

• Lead behaviour support planning and development, and implementation processes, assist in the development, documentation, and delivery of positive behaviour plans, including submission and reporting against these as appropriate.

• Develop and deliver high quality, professional and culturally appropriate behaviour support services to people with disability and / or significant disadvantage and who have an identified specific support need.

• Design and deliver effective interventions and plans, that are evidence based and meet clients’ needs.

• Monitor, update and evaluate records and plans in line with the NDIS plan and / or individual goals.

• Monitor client progress and evaluate outcomes, providing appropriate update and supports and proactive intervention where appropriate.

• Providing training, advice and / or support to workers involved in the communication and / or implementation of the support plans.

• Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist behavioural support advice clients, their families / representatives and workers delivering these. Communicate plan details in line with consents documented, ensuring that all parties are clear as to expectations and the reasoning for these.

• Be involved in crisis intervention.

Networking & Professional Development

• Ensure that self needs for support, education and supervision are met

• Ensure that knowledge, skills, and service provision keep with current practices by accessing the latest literature, attending relevant training and workshops and maintaining awareness of Footsteps Community Services (FCS) policies, procedures and expectations

• Attendance at and participation in all individual supervision, team meetings and training opportunities as required.

• Establishing professional and cooperative relationships with relevant agencies and partners

• Provide colleagues and managers with support and assistance when required.

Quality and Administration

• Services are provided in context with attention to quality management processes.

• Ensure day to day administrative requirements are met including file notes.

• Create timely, professional, and appropriate records and reports and ensure plans are reviewed/ evaluated in line with quality standards and organisational requirements.

• Use available technology, resources, systems, and processes to ensure efficient and effective services.

• Ensure accurate recording of hours to facilitate billing and/ or acquittals of funding as appropriate.

Leadership:

Key selection criteria:

Mandatory:

• Proficiency in written and spoken English.

• Ability to meet the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support capability framework at a core level or above.

• Qualification in Psychology, Behaviour Science, Social Work, Counselling, or related discipline.

• Registration with a governing body as appropriate.

• Right to work in Australia.

• Current working with Children. (Blue Card)

• Current CPR and First Aid Certificate.

• A cleared worker screening check. (NDIS)

• A valid and unrestricted QLD driver’s license.

• Access to a roadworthy vehicle.

• National police Check

• Be willing and suitable to undertake any NDIS registration requirements.

Appreciated:

• Previous work experience as a Behaviour Support Practitioner (ideal but not essential).

• Experience in support/youth work.

• Knowledge and understanding of the NDIS.

• Understanding of the Criminal Justice System.

• An understanding of the biopsychosocial model.

• Familiarity with the adverse childhood experiences study (ACE’s).

• An understanding of practice positive behaviour support, evidence-based approaches, and trauma informed practice an advantage.

• Integration and social inclusion principles in own practice.

Interpersonal Skills:

• Excellent communication skills and ability to establish an effective. rapport with clients and stakeholders.

• Strong written skills and the ability to provide written reports as necessary.

• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and work with senior Management toward organisational goals.

Salary starts at $75,000 up to $110,000 depending on experience, plus super, laptop, uniform, and mobile phone. Footsteps CS has made necessary applications to provide Salary Sacrifice opportunities and this might be available soon.
