Practitioner, Children’s Contact Services

  • 60 hours per fortnight, continuing position
  • Wangaratta

An exciting opportunity exists to be part of the implementation of a new service for the Wangaratta and surrounding community!

Catholic Care Victoria has received funding from the Attorney-General’s Department to set up a Children’s Contact Centre in Wangaratta and are currently in the early stages of implementation. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the development of a child centred service working with families of diverse backgrounds. Join us in a positive, dynamic work environment where you will have the chance to be involved in a variety of tasks including developing best practice processes that focus on child safety and participation. 

Working within the service you will conduct intake and assessment of parents with the goal to facilitate changeovers and supervised visits in accordance with individual client agreements and in line with program guidelines. Children’s Contact Service workers are to be child focused and therefore must be vigilant in ensuring the physical and emotional wellbeing of all parties, in particular the children using the service.

Specifically, the position is responsible for:

  • Conduct thorough intake and assessments of parents with a particular focus on safety including screening for Family violence and risks to children’s safety and wellbeing.
  • Familiarise children and parents using the Children’s Contact Service, around the purpose, safety, venue, processes, and equipment.
  • Days and hours: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 10:30am – 6:30pm, Saturday 9:00am – 5:00pm, with penalty rates on Saturday.

If you have the below skills & experience – we would love to hear from you! 

  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV or Diploma of Community Services. Those with a Bachelor of Social work, Psychology (or related discipline) are also encouraged to apply. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of theoretical frameworks and intervention strategies (knowledge of child development, family systems theory, grief & loss are highly desirable)
  • Proven understanding of the impact of family violence including ability to identify and assess at an intermediate level.
