The Opportunity
Family and Disabilities Services is currently seeking to appoint a Practitioner to work as a part of our Foster and Kinship Care: Therapeutic Intervention Service.
You will report to the Program Service Leader and will be responsible for overseeing the development; co-ordination and implementation of therapeutic support plans. We work within a trauma-informed practice framework to deliver a therapeutic and strength-based approach with our foster care families while recognising the importance of a child’s attachment and relationship for their growth and healing.
You will also:
- Collaborate with carer households and key stakeholders to identify strengths and develop goals for carers families and the children and young people they support.
- Provide practical and psycho-educational support to enhance the stability of the home environment and achieve identified goals.
- Facilitate psycho-education sessions both individually and in small groups, for learning and development opportunities for carers, children and young people.
- Support carers to understand their role in strengthening the positive relationship between the child/young person(s) in their home environment.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with other Service Providers, Government Departments and Community Agencies to facilitate client outcomes and positively represent the Service and Organisation.
- Record documentation and practice effective interpersonal and written communication skills in accordance with Program policies; procedures and timeframes.
- Be required to practice effective time management skills and work both autonomously and as part of a team.
What you’ll need
- Demonstrate an ability to deliver interventions; case management and co-ordination of effective service delivery in accordance with statutory responsibilities while following therapeutic process and practices.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the child protection system and more specifically, previous exposure to the out of home care environment.
- Have a strong therapeutic background with a well-developed understanding of frameworks, such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention
- Hold a relevant tertiary level qualification within a human service related field
- Be subject to relevant criminal and child protection system checks
- Hold a current Open Qld Driver Licence
