The Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors (AIPC) is a private provider of Higher Education, and is Australia’s most well known educator of Counsellors.  Offering comprehensive and innovative counselling tertiary programs from Bachelor to Master levels, AIPC students enjoy a unique and personalised learning experience studying through online learning.

Due to growing enrolments and the release of further courses, the Institute is now seeking applications from experienced Counselling academic staff for the position of Program Leader – Undergraduate and Program Leader – Postgraduate.  

The Program Leader positions work closely with the academic team in the delivery of the respective Counselling higher education courses. Reporting to the AIPC Provost, the Program Leaders oversee Counselling academic Lecturers to ensure a professional and quality learning experience for AIPC counselling students.    

This roles present a strong opportunity for the right candidates to evolve their academic career to Academic Level C.   This is a teaching-focussed role which will allow you to build and apply your teaching expertise and profile. AIPC supports its academic leadership through funded professional development and support for scholarly activity and research.  

This academic leadership role provides an opportunity for established or emerging academics to build and strengthen their academic leadership track record. Either position allows you to develop and implement teaching and learning strategies, lead a dynamic academic team and have a positive impact on AIPC’s students. 

Based at the Institute’s Higher Education campus in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, the position is permanent full-time (with 6 months’ probation).  30 hours per week (0.8 FTE) would also be considered.

The main responsibilities undertaken by each Program Leader position include:

  • Planning for and overseeing the effective teaching and assessment of the respective Counselling higher education courses.
  • Effectively leading the Counselling academic team to inspire excellent academic standards.
  • Upholding a positive leadership approach that encourages academic quality and student satisfaction.
  • Ensuring plans for the Counselling higher education courses are implemented successfully, including academic service and quality standards.   
  • Reviewing feedback and student outcomes and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Participating in academic committees and ensuring feedback and decisions of the committees are implemented.
  • Contributing to strategic and operational planning processes within AIPC’s leadership team.

The successful applicant will have:  

  • A recognised PhD or Doctorate in Psychology, Counselling or Social Work. 
  • Experience in leading and administering the successful delivery of higher education courses, subjects and services.
  • Excellent teaching skills in higher education contexts.  Experience in online learning is viewed favourably.
  • Excellent liaison, negotiation and collaborative capability.   
  • Scholarly activity representative of the academic level.   
  • Eligible for membership of the Australian Counselling Association.
