Offices in Grovedale, service delivery at office and Geelong and surrounding areas. 

Business description

Barwon occupational therapy has grown from a small occupational therapy service to a multidisciplinary allied health service. It is an experienced disability services provider that supports all ages, children to adults, to achieve optimal human functioning and reach their goals. 

The offices are large with consultation rooms, a large training room, a sensory gym, and kitchen that was designed for use in client assessments. There is ample no-cost car parking in the adjacent car park, and also full-time administration and IT support. The service aims to keep a friendly, collegial atmosphere while providing high quality services to clients. 

 

Position summary

The Provisional Psychologist will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated range of evidence-based services appropriate to members of the disability community.

The Provisional Psychologist will be responsible for the provision of two main service types: 
(1) evidence-based and person-centred therapy in our consulting rooms, and (2) positive behaviour support services to young people and adults with disability. This includes services provided through a range of funding sources including NDIS. 

 

Qualifications

The candidate must hold a recognised qualification within the Psychology profession, be provisionally registered with the Psychology Board of Australia, and working towards full registration under an arrangement approved by the Board and must comply with all Psychology Board requirements including those relation to clinical supervision and restrictions on practice.

 

Knowledge

The candidate is expected to have clinical skills in evidence-based interventions, and an understanding of research, legal and ethical requirements, for operating as a psychologist

 

Skills

The candidate will require good interpersonal skills, be well organised, and demonstrate a high level of verbal and written communication. Report writing will be a key task. Well-developed research and analytical skills, and strong problem-solving skills and clinical skills based on experience.

 

Position requirements

  • Must have necessary clearance or eligible to obtain i.e., NDIS Worker Screening Check, Police Check
  • The position provides services both in the Grovedale consulting rooms, and behaviour support services in-situ in the Geelong and surrounds. Hence, the Provisional Psychologist must have the ability and willingness to travel within the Greater Geelong area.
  • Own vehicle and current driver’s license
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Genuine interest and passion for working with people with a disability.
  • Effective collaboration and team membership to support implementation of strategies and plans.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and complete timely case notes.
  • Ability to properly manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • An understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and government legislative requirements.
  • A commitment to evidence-based assessment and intervention approaches.
  • Participate in the organisation’s Performance Review process.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and relevant clinical supervision requirements.

 

Position Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Provide therapeutic sessions to referred clients using evidence-based interventions.
  • Conduct psychometric, behavioural, and functional assessments and prepare relevant reports as required to meet client/participant goals.
  • Manage a behaviour support case load.
  • Complete data collection processes to identify elements contributing to challenging behaviours/behaviours of concern.
  • Conduct functional behaviour assessments. 
  • Develop strategies and approaches to address challenging behaviours/behaviours of concern.
  • Develop tailored treatment/intervention plans.
  • Write individualised positive behaviour support plans to a minimum core standard and provide training in the implementation of the positive behaviour support plan to the participants support team, other professionals, and families on an individual and or team basis.
  • Adhere to reporting timeframes in line with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commission requirements.
  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills that build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with other professions to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to participant care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of both participants and Barwon Occupational Therapy intellectual property
  • Maintain a commitment to continuous improvement and quality service.

 

Key relationships

The Provisional Psychologist will:

  • Report to the Behaviour Team Leader (Dr Glenn Kelly) for operational and administrative matters, and ultimately to the Director (Anna Treloar-Tanner) when relevant.
  • Work under Supervision in accordance with the Psychology Board of Australia approved supervision agreement.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary framework, in collaboration with other health professionals, service providers, and stakeholders across government and non-government departments
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the behaviour support team & profession.
