Psychologist Australian Childhood Foundation

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Located in Alice Springs with travel to Tennant Creek where required
  • Full Time – Fixed term until June 2026

The Australian Childhood Foundation has a strong reputation for delivery of clinical services, professional training and secondary consultation programs built upon up to date, evidence based theoretical frameworks including the neurobiology of trauma, attachment and relational theories and child development. This theoretical framework provides the foundation upon which all elements of care and intervention are provided by the Foundation.

About the Program:

The Northern Territory Department of Health has developed a three-stream program to increase support for children and young people across the NT who display harmful sexual behaviour. The Foundation has been awarded funding to operate ‘stream two’ which will provide assessment and treatment to children and young people between the ages of 8-12 who display harmful sexual behaviour that is considered inappropriate and/or problematic. Service delivery will be based out of Alice Springs and Darwin with outreach support to Tennant Creek and Katherine. As part of this, the Foundation will act as a conduit between the other streams; place-based support service delivery in community and justice-involved young people through NT Health.

About the Role:

The Psychologist will engage in clinical assessment and therapeutic support with children and young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour and their families/caregivers. The role includes outreach support to remote locations.

About You – Key Selection Criteria:

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in Psychology
  • Eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a culturally safe manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families, carers, and communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma, attachment and neurobiology frameworks and theories.
  • Substantial experience in the area of child abuse and/or in working with traumatised children, including delivering a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions to the client group.
  • A sophisticated understanding of the complexity of the service system and the issues in providing services to statutory clients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and the capacity to negotiate and liaise with volunteers, including carers, Territory Families, Housing and Communities, other agencies and the community.
  • A current Northern Territory driver’s licence or equivalent.
  • A current Working with Children Check (Ochre Card).

Remuneration & Benefits:

The salary is determined on the basis of the employee’s experience and qualifications. In joining a strong, values-based organisation, you will also have access to:
