Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service – Empowering community, health and identity

WAMS provides healthcare and helps educate and support Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in the community to care for their health and improve their well-being, with many initiatives to help make healthy living more accessible. 

Their Healthy for Life program includes a market garden where clients and the community can access fresh fruit and vegetables grown on-site.

About the Opportunity

WAMS now has exciting opportunities for full-time Psychologists or Counsellors to join their team in Walgett, NSW. Reporting to the Practice Manager, you are responsible for counselling services to the Walgett and surrounding communities.

About the Benefits

This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Psychologist or Counsellor to join a supporting organisation providing services to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in our community.

Working Monday to Friday, you will receive an attractive hourly rate circa $100 per hour inclusive of super.

This salary package is inclusive of the following benefits:

  • Subsidised modern accommodation;
  • Negotiable relocation assistance;
  • 4 weeks annual leave; 
  • Salary sacrificing up to $15,900 per year; and
  • Vehicle for travel into communities.

About You

To thrive in your new role, you will be a tertiary qualified Psychologist or diploma or degree-qualified Counsellor. Recent graduates in either discipline are encouraged to apply. Candidates will also require current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 

You will also bring a sound understanding of community, public and Aboriginal health issues. Candidates with experience in complex trauma, trauma-informed care, Alcohol and Drug management and domestic violence will be highly regarded. 

Experience working with health services agencies, non-government agencies, and community groups will also be required.
