We are currently recruiting for a full time, permanent Psychologist/Mental Health Social Worker to join us in the role of Senior Practitioner.
YLO (Residential Care Services) provides Residential Care and support services to children and young people under the care and protection of the Department of Children, Youth Justice & Multicultural Affairs across South East QLD.
Our services are grounded within a therapeutic context – we move beyond the basic daily care needs of the young person and focus on the assessment and delivery of individual programs that maximise potential for success and attainment of goals central to the child/young person’s developing self.
Key duties will include:
- Ensuring that the therapeutic model of care held by YLO (Residential Care Services) is upheld and maintained across Residential houses;
- Provide therapeutic intervention and support of children and young people within Residential care, as and when required;
- Liaise with the Department and other stakeholders to ensure that a holistic approach to the therapeutic needs of children and young people are being attended to;
- Deliver in-service training and development programs to staff within YLO (Residential Care Services) on a range of therapeutic, behavioural and psychological issues; and
- Actively contribute to the growth and success of YLO (Residential Care Services) by supporting continuous improvement and effectively participating as a member of the YLO (Residential Care Services) team.
To be successful for this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work (Mental Health Accredited)
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience working within child protection &/or significant study or demonstrable knowledge of development needs of children and young people, childhood trauma, and resulting emotional and behavioural issues;
- Comprehensive understanding of child development, attachment and trauma theory and demonstrated ability to put this into practice;
- Demonstrable experience of intervention with complex and at-risk children and young people;
- The ability to work autonomously;
- A current first aid certificate and drivers licence
- Previous experience or exposure to a Residential Care environment would be highly regarded.
