JOB DESCRIPTION

About You

You will be a qualified and experienced Psychologist OR Social Worker ready to work with a broad range of prisoners as part of the Psychological Health Service department at Acacia. Your caring nature and commitment to prisoner rehabilitation will see you excel at completing risk assessments, providing individual therapeutic counselling, and completing defendable documentation.

About the Role

This is a permanent position with flexible working hours located at Acacia Prison in Wooroloo.

Salary – $106,573.91

In this role you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary care team to provide conduct risk assessments, individual therapeutic counselling to prisoners and facilitate group-based interventions. You will be required to prepare case formulation of presenting psychological and/or behavioural issues, including assessing persons at risk of suicide and/or self-harm. Your accurate reporting skills will see you providing defendable documentation relating to prisoners’ progress.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
  • Psychologist: Degree in Psychology AND fully registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Association (AHPRA)
  • Social Worker: Degree in Social Work; AND eligibility for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering individual counselling, ideally within a correctional, welfare or other institutional setting
  • Solid understanding of evidence-based practices in the assessment and intervention of different psychological and behavioural presentations
  • Knowledge of the social and clinical variables associated with major offense categories
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of psychological services and programs
