Position: Senior Psychologist

Qualification: Registered Psychologist  & Board Approved Supervisor with AHPRA

Full Time Role: $110,000.00 Salary Negotiable

or

Contractor Rate: 70% as a contractor/supervision of provisional psychologists & therapy assistants paid at $150 per hour

 

YOUR NEW ROLE

As a Senior Psychologist within our new Department, we want someone who has a strong foundation in supporting a range of clients along the life span continuum with a range of needs and diagnoses. We have a strong client base of pediatric clients with complex disabilities and are growing in aged care and the private sector. We want to open Psychology services to all individuals of all ages and ensure that we provide care for every individual to the highest standards. We believe in providing trustworthy care to all individuals and want to ensure that the Department is grounded in learning, planning, servicing and creativity.

You will be responsible for independently providing a high-standard of evidence-based psychological counselling and treatment to clients with a range of mental health presentations. Initially your role will be clinical in supporting children and adults to participate fully in life by providing high quality, culturally appropriate psychological and behaviour support interventions. You will be required to provide assessment, individual psychological therapy and behaviour support in line with the individuals’ needs and goals.

In addition to the clinical side of your role, the Senior Psychologist is responsible for providing clinical support, supervision, guidance and advice to members within Ultimate Health Greystanes Psychology Department and training our Multidisciplinary team. You will be mentoring Provisional Psychologists and Therapy Assistants to provide interventions recommended by you to increase intensity of therapies or provide more affordable service deliveries to the family, while having your guidance.

We also ask that you assist management in leading the Psychology Department by assisting in recruitment, interviews, trainings for new staff and planning setup and growth within the Department. We ask that you are able to run team meetings and individual supervisions for other Registered Psychologists that we may hire in the future, provide supervisions for Provisional Psychologists and Therapy Assistants within the Department.

In addition, we ask that you assist management in training our multi-disciplinary team to support the individuals that access our services to be holistic in our care and management of our clients.

 

CLIENT SERVICES

  • Complete thorough assessments for a range of individuals and complete analysis to understand the individuals diagnoses and therapy needs to achieve best outcomes.
  •  Provision of psychological counselling and therapeutic treatment to individuals (all ages) and couples.
  • Create and maintain professional records pertaining to psychological services, including (but not limited to) case notes, reports and letters that are consistent with Association Guidelines
  • Liaise, consult and make appropriate referrals to internal and external services including GPs and other health professionals.
  • Provide formal training and guidance to families and service providers based on the BSP
  • Provide high quality, cultural appropriate psychological interventions to people with disability, often in relation to complex or challenging behaviour.
  • Understand and select appropriate psychological assessment/s based on that persons need and support those decisions writing.
  • Include any psychological related health and medical needs into both the assessment and the intervention recommendations using best practice standards.
  • Participate in collaborative discussions with clients, carers/family and other health professionals to achieve the best outcomes for the client’s current risks and to map with that group the goals and evaluation required to achieve those.
  • Provide education to client and carer/family as necessary appropriate to their need and level of ability, to allow understanding of the implications recommended.
  • Implement appropriate evidence based services that meet the needs of clients according to the goals and within the allocated hours of the NDIS plan
  • Participate in support planning processes for clients to deliver coordinated, effective service provision that meets the goals of the client’s NDIS plan.
  • Coach, advise and provide on the job support to other team members to enhance quality and culturally appropriate psychological interventions.
  • Promote evidence based psychological therapy practice and provide coaching, mentoring and supervision to other psychology staff.
  • Work in collaboration with other Senior Clinicians to monitor, develop and improve clinical service provision.

ORGANISATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Assist in the setup of the Psychology Department (e.g. setup of assessments, report templates, therapeutic tools needed for the clinic, training of staff, recruitment of staff etc)
  • Contribute to the setup, planning, development and evaluation of programs and services
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in clinical practice.
  • Assist in the development of clinical resources and other psychoeducational materials
  • Conduct team meetings.
  • Support administrative and organisational processes.
  • Supervise all Psychologists, Provisional Psychologists and Therapy Assistants within the Department
  • Engage in meetings with Practice Managers & Directors to report on Department progress, goals, strategic directions and needs.
  • Represent the organisation in an honest, ethical and professional way and encourage others to do so
  • Act professionally and support a culture of integrity
  • Identify and explain ethical issues and set an example for others to follow
  • Ensure that others are aware of and understand the legislation and policy framework within which they operate
  • Act to prevent and report misconduct and illegal and inappropriate behaviour

 

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

  • Meet the National Board registration standards including criminal history, English language skills, professional indemnity insurance, recency of practice and continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Be responsible for informing themselves about applicable legislation, policies and procedures in their workplace.
  • Only provide psychological services within the boundaries of their professional competence.
  • Treat others with dignity, courtesy and respect in order to maintain a safe, flexible and respectful environment free from all forms of discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment.
  • Maintain a strong level of Professional Learning within the Department .

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a minimum 5 years post graduate experience
  • Current driver’s license and willingness/ability to travel to clients where required
  • Board Approved Supervisor with AHPRA or commitment to successful completion of competency-based supervisor training (full training) with a board-approved provider
  • Demonstrated high level of knowledge, skills and experience in trauma informed practice, psychological assessment, case formulation, counselling and critical incident response
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound clinical judgement and adherence to clinical governance protocols including service evaluation and quality improvement
  • Experience with intellectual disability and the capacity to adapt evidence based treatments to suit individual needs of the person
  • Experience conducting assessments to create Behaviour Support Plans to support children and adults that may exhibit behaviours of concern to participate fully in life and achieve their goals
  • Provide formal training and guidance to families and service providers based on the BSP
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills
  • Tailor communication to diverse audiences
  • Clearly explain complex concepts and arguments to individuals and groups Create opportunities for others to be heard, listen attentively and encourage them to express their views
