We are seeking an enthusiastic team member to join the Wellbeing Team at our Boys’ secondary school in the role of Psychologist. This is a part time position requiring 3 days a week.
The Psychologist will be responsible for the general wellbeing of all students – Years 7 to 12, and of staff. Part of the Student Wellbeing Team, the psychologist is responsible for individual counselling and supporting social, emotional, and behavioural programs targeted at specific year levels.
The Psychologist will complete cognitive assessments as needed to assist in the support of educating our students and enable teachers to best cater for specific academic, social, emotional, or behavioural needs. These assessments will also be used for funding purposes.
Areas of responsibilities include specifically:
- Providing support to students and staff with their welfare needs.
- To support proactive welfare, social and emotional learning programs and workshops.
- To liaise with the relevant teachers and parents / carers in relation to students of concern e.g.: development of Behaviour Management Plans, IEP’s (Individual Education Plans), general support and management, student observations etc.
- To conduct relevant diagnostic testing and assessment to support the students’ education needs and goals.
- To attend relevant PSG (Parent Support Group) meetings.
- Recommend and provide information and support to the senior staff of Yeshivah Secondary (i.e., in relation to specific students, in times of crisis etc.).
- Recommend and assist in the case management of students and families that need to be referred / reported to external agencies i.e., DFFH (formerly DHHS), Child First, Jewish Care, SECASA, police etc.
- To occasionally conduct targeted staff training and in-servicing.
- To occasionally present at parent information forums.
- To meet weekly with the Wellbeing Team to discuss specific students.
- To collaborate with the Student Wellbeing Coordinator and Secondary School personnel to facilitate the smooth transition for students from primary to secondary.
- In certain circumstances to provide initial counselling and support for Yeshivah Secondary Staff – this support will be ‘First response only’ and the staff member will be referred onward for appropriate external counselling.
- The Psychologist will use the learning management system (SEQTA), to provide electronic pastoral care information to relevant staff and to record date, time and frequency of meetings.

Position Requirements
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years in a position of psychologist (preferred) with at least 1 year working in a school setting
- This role can be undertaken by a provisional psychologist
- Educational and/or Clinical qualification
- An understanding of educational philosophy in school settings
- VIT Registration or relevant Working with Children Check
- The ability to be approachable and work well with all staff
- Commitment to the school ethos and culture
