Quit Tasmania, a program of Cancer Council Tasmania, has been leading efforts in tobacco control since 1995 through prevention, support, research and advocacy programs. Quit Tasmania’s vision is a Tasmania free from tobacco and its harmful effects. We aim to eliminate the harms of tobacco, and other related products such as e-cigarettes, by preventing smoking uptake and supporting all Tasmanians who smoke to quit. We accomplish this through collaboration, partnerships and evidence-based practice. Quit Tasmania is funded by the Department of Health Tasmania.
Quit Tasmania’s main functions include:
- providing evidence-based multi-session counselling, specialist information and support to assist Tasmanians to quit smoking and/or vaping through Quitline 13 7848 and other channels
- delivering mass media campaigns
- providing information and resources to build capacity for smoke-free settings and communities
- tobacco control advocacy
Quit Tasmania is seeking to employ a full time Quitline Counsellor (fixed term, funding dependent), based in Sandy Bay, Hobart.
As a Quitline Counsellor you will be providing evidence-based and culturally safe individualised counselling, information and advice to assist Tasmanians to stop smoking and/or vaping through telephone and other digital channels (eg, messaging, social media). You will also be referring clients to other health and community services as needs are identified.
In this role you will help promote Quitline to the Tasmanian community including people from diverse population groups and key stakeholders such as health professionals.
