Newcastle Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (NWDVCAS) aims to assist women and children who have experienced or who are experiencing domestic violence to:
-obtain effective legal protection from NSW Local Courts through applications for ADVOs;
-facilitate their access to a network of professional services that can assist them with their other legal and social/welfare needs;
-respond effectively to domestic violence through partnerships with other services and agencies assists in building local capacity.
These aims are achieved through the provision of the following programs,
– Court advocacy programs , operate from three local courts, Newcastle, Belmont and Toronto.
– Two Local Coordination Points , cover Newcastle and Lake Macquarie LGA areas ,they have an intake and referral service and a safety action meeting every fortnight.
– The Family Advocacy Support Service (FASS) provides support at Newcastle Family Law Court.
– A multicultural Focus Worker and an Aboriginal Focus Workers provide high-level expert advice on how to make NWDVCAS services relevant, accessible and responsive to women and children from a CALD and ATSI background.
About the role
The Safety Action Meeting Coordinator works in partnership with the DFV Specialist WDVCAS workers to provide clients with an effective, streamlined service.
Skills and experience
The Safety Action Meeting Coordinator exercises a degree of autonomy and provides high-level expert advice to the Newcastle WDVCAS Manager .
The work includes but is not limited to, the following duties
- Coordinating and monitoring Safety Action Meetings. This includes secretariat support for the Safety Action Meetings, such as developing agendas and recording actions agreed and safety action plans, to ensure a timely response to victims at serious threat of injury or death in line with the Safety Action Meeting Practice Manual;
- Complying with the Safety Action Meeting Practice Manual and the Domestic and Family Violence Information Sharing Protocol;
- Ensuring timely feedback to the Central Referral Point about victims referred to the Local Coordination Point;
- Liaising with victims in relation to safety action plans developed at Safety Action Meetings and/or appropriate support provided, or arranged by the Local Coordination Point;
- Following up with Safety Action Meeting members regarding actions agreed as needed;
- Assisting Newcastle WDVCAS to comply with reporting and other requirements under the WDVCAS Service Agreement, WDVCAP Principles, Policies and Standards and other operational documents in relation to Local Coordination Point responsibilities;
- In conjunction with the Newcastle WDVCAS Manager , developing and administering policies, systems and processes for the effective operation of the Local Coordination Point and Safety Action Meetings.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans aimed at ensuring the effectiveness of the WDVCAS and compliance with WDVCAP Policies, Procedures and Standards;
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key WDVCAS partners including NSW Police Force, Local Courts, legal representatives and referral agencies, in order to facilitate client access to those agencies and services; and
- Attending court user forums, Domestic and Family Violence Reforms regional governance meetings and other relevant forums where required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
The SAM Coordinator must be able to demonstrate
- Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities and legal and social welfare consequences of domestic and family violence, and their impact on women and children;
- Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence including AVO applications, criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim’s compensation issues;
- Ability to deliver services in accordance with the WDVCAP model of service delivery outlined in the Service Agreement, Policy and Procedure Manual, the SAM Manual and other operational documents;
- Excellent organisational, administrative, financial and management skills;
- Ability to implement service delivery strategies aimed at ensuring the relevance, accessibility and responsiveness of NWDVCAS services to a diverse range of women and children;
- Networking experience and skills in building and maintaining constructive working relationships with key stakeholders;
- Ability to analyse relevant quantitative and qualitative data to improve service delivery;
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in management, negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution;
- Knowledge of, and an ability to work effectively with, interpreter services;

The position is full-time position ( 35 hours per week) -Level 6 Pay SCHCADS Award. Pay point negotiable depending on qualifications and experience
