School Counsellor Amity College

JOB DESCRIPTION

Amity College Prestons Campus seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person to the position of school counsellor.

This is a maternity replacement position with the following details:

2023: Part time (3 days) position to commence immediately 

2024: Full time until the end of year. 2 days will be in our Leppington Campus (15-minute drive from Prestons)

Possible extension to 2025.

This position has primary responsibility for supporting the educational needs, learning, development, welfare and wellbeing of students. It has the potential to positively influence the entire community and will be achieved by contributing expertise to the preparation of Student Behaviour Management Plans and Independent Learning Plans, whilst liaising with the Diverse Learning Coordinator, Year Level Coordinators and classroom teachers.

Key elements for the position:

  • Previous experience working in schools is highly desirable
  • An overriding commitment to, and high aspirations for, student learning and holistic wellbeing
  • Ability to innovate, develop and implement programs which meet students’ needs
  • A commitment to child safety, demonstrating an understanding of appropriate behaviours when engaging with children with diverse needs and backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively with highly sensitive and confidential matters
  • A proven capacity to develop trust with students, parents and staff and guide the development and wellbeing of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills, including the ability to liaise and provide advice regarding student wellbeing to all levels of the schools and to parents, guardians and wellbeing service providers

Essential Criteria:

  • Hold relevant tertiary qualification(s)
  • Hold a current Working With Children Check
  • Membership of eligible professional association
  • Registration with the appropriate authority
