School Counsellor Braemar College

JOB DESCRIPTION

Braemar College is an independent, co-educational school for students in Years 5 to 12. The College is located near Woodend, less than an hour from Melbourne’s CBD. The successful candidate will experience working in one of the most unique educational settings.

This role is a full time or substantially part-time if you prefer and an ongoing position. Commencing on the 25 January 2024

Position:

The role of a Counsellor is pivotal within the College and works as part of a wellbeing team. It provides professional counselling services to our students to assist with the development of an enabling College culture that empowers students toward positive relationships.  

The role is responsible for the following:

  • Provide counselling to individuals and groups;
  • Conduct individual case management for students including risk and mental health assessments;
  • Provide referral to appropriate services and agencies when necessary;
  • Support parents, teachers and the Leadership Team regarding student matters.

The successful candidate will be able to add value by their ability to contribute professionally to our students’ wellbeing.

About You:

It is expected that you will:

  • Have experience in providing specialist counselling to young people and their families with regard to personal, emotional, social and intellectual difficulties.
  • Be prepared to demonstrate an exceptionally high level of confidentiality and privacy in relation to all aspects of the position.
  • Have highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate qualifications and registration as a psychologist or other formal training as a counsellor. 
  • Be able to work independently, with support from the leaders at the College.
  • Participate and assist the College in advising on critical incidents as needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
