School Counsellor – 1.0 FTE; Permanent

As a School Counsellor at Immanuel, you’ll have commitment and enthusiasm for the well-being and care of young people and work with them in a way that is meaningful and engaging.  You will work collaboratively with parents/carers, teaching and professional staff across the College to ensure provision of high quality support services for our students.

Our staff promote and support a positive organisational culture by maintaining effective working relationships and communicating effectively with students, parents, colleagues and visitors.

Key Selection Criteria:  Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Qualifications in Psychology or Counselling.  Recent school-based experience is desirable.
  • Registration with an appropriate organisation e.g. Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or  the Psychology Board of Australia – Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA) is desirable
  • Evidence of current mandatory notification training completion
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with proven ability to develop positive working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Highly developed time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to respond effectively to crisis situations
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling adolescents and families and working with teams of professionals to achieve positive outcomes for students

As a School Counsellor, you will at all times observe the professional integrity of the counselling relationship and adhere to the ethical standards of the profession.  You will provide range of effective and appropriate counselling services for students, liaising with key school staff to provide services to support students’ well being and achieve positive outcomes for students.
