Brief Job Description:
A School Counsellor/Psychologist is required to work collaboratively with a dynamic team of students, teachers and parents in a growing school.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in different school related projects, attend school camps and liaise with outside agencies to promote student wellbeing.
Counsellor Position – St Euphemia College:
St Euphemia College is a Greek Orthodox, comprehensive, coeducational school providing education to students from Prep to Year 12. The students, who come from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds are encouraged to excel in all their endeavours in a caring, disciplined and safe environment that is responsive to individual needs. The school is located in the Bankstown CBD and our students travel from across Sydney to attend the College.

We are currently seeking a suitable School Counsellor/Psychologist to provide specialised psychological assessment, counselling and intervention services, participate in the different projects the school is undertaking and the school welfare program.
This is a full time, maternity leave position.
Essential Requirements:
- AHPRA registration/ Provisional Registration (6th Year).
- Maintain a valid Working with Children Check from the Office of the Children’s Guardian.
- Produce a current Police check.
- Experience working with children/ adolescents (ages 5 – 18) and their families in either a clinical or school setting.
- Familiarity with Positive Behaviour Interventions and Support (PBIS).
- Experienced in administration and interpretation of psychometric assessments (WISC – V, WIAT III) and report writing.
- Can be available via MS Teams or in school meetings for emergency/urgent counselling appointments during the holidays for high-risk students.
- Promote Orthodox values and encourage students to model their faith and virtues.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
The School Counsellor/Psychologist is expected to:
- Identify, support and intervene with students experiencing emotional, behavioural, learning and social needs.
- Assist teachers in managing the learning, emotional and/or behavioural needs of the students in the classroom and/or playground.
- Support parents in managing the emotional, learning and/or behavioural needs of their children.
- Where needed, provide recommendations, psycho-education and information on external services.
- Facilitate wellbeing workshops with students in Pastoral Care.
- Manage counselling caseload.
- Maintain files and procedures within the school counsellors’ domain in keeping with the standards of psychological practice as set out by the Australian Psychological Society’s code of ethics.
- Administer IQ, Academic and Diagnostic psychometric assessments.
- Interpret educational psychologist and other specialist reports to enable the best intervention and response within the School context.
- Liaise with parents where cognitive assessments are to be conducted and reviewed.
- Advocate for students where special provisions or special consideration is warranted in assessing academic outcomes.
- Adhere to the Child Protection legislation, referring to the Mandatory Reporter Guide and reporting child protection issues to the principal.
- Active facilitation and participation in staff meetings, including meetings with parents, whole school Professional Learning, Learning and Support Team Meetings, Welfare Meetings and Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports Meetings.
- Liaise with their school counsellor colleague regarding caseload management.
- Have knowledge/experience in notifying appropriate staff members about welfare issues in a confidential manner.
- Have sound knowledge conducting risk assessments.
- Demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people and the current issues influencing their needs.
- Maintain referral systems within the School.
- Participate in the life of the School, some of which may make place outside school hours, (camps, excursions, Religious and Cultural Commemorations).
