JOB DESCRIPTION

Redfield College is an independent Catholic boys’ school (Year 2 to Year 12) teaching the Catholic faith with a unique, personalised education program.  Located in Dural, north-­west of Sydney, the College was founded in 1986 by the PARED Foundation on the principle that parents are the primary educators and that schools exist to offer parents every support. Redfield College is pleased to offer a part time (FTE 0.4) role for a suitably qualified, professional, and motivated School Counsellor.  This role is to commence in Term 1, 2024. 

To be successful in this role, you will need to confidently demonstrate the following key skills and experience: 

  • Demonstrable experience in educating, counselling and volunteer work involving children (ideally within a school environment)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Counselling/Psychology/Social Work or equivalent; those without a degree, but with professional Counselling qualifications and experience may also be considered
  • Current membership with an appropriate association (eg APACS, AASW, APS, PACFA or CAPA).
  • An understanding of the current issues affecting students
  • An understanding of current child protection legislation
  • Able to develop specialised programmes to assist individual students
  • Ability to work closely and guide teachers and the School Executive to implement a wholistic approach to support student needs 
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and engage with multiple stakeholders.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to ongoing evaluation and improvement.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Understanding of, and support for the Vision, Mission, Values and ethos of the School.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provision of counselling to at-risk students
  • Facilitation of consultations with staff and parents
  • Engaging and training educators and parents with regards to counselling-related issues
  • Distinguishing, developing, and facilitating dedicated programmes to support and assist students
