School Counsellor / Psychologist / Youth Worker /Social Worker St Bernard’s College

JOB DESCRIPTION

The College is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified School Counsellor, Psychologist, Youth Worker or Social Worker in an ongoing position to commence 27 January 2023. The position is Full time but will consider part time for the right candidate.

 

Reporting to the Assistant Principal (Student Wellbeing) the School Counsellor / Psychologist / Youth Worker will be an active member of the College Wellbeing Leadership Team responsible for the wellbeing of students, as well as assisting staff and parents in their care. 

The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • proactively supporting students, parents and College staff to enhance the personal, social and educational wellbeing of St Bernard’s College students;
  • designing and delivering a continuum of wellbeing services addressing student wellbeing, welfare and barriers to learning, with an emphasis on primary prevention, early intervention, intervention and restoring wellbeing;
  • providing individual or group counselling to students experiencing emotional, social and behavioural difficulties;
  • assisting students to develop appropriate strategies to deal with their concerns;
  • working within a multidisciplinary team to develop appropriate responses, education and policy around wellbeing issues; and
  • supporting teachers and staff in understanding student difficulties.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • professional training and experience counselling students experiencing emotional, social and behavioural difficulties.
  • experience working with adolescents, ideally in a school setting;
  • knowledge of key issues in managing mental health within a secondary school environment;
  • well developed organisational and administrative skills;
  • strong, effective communication and stakeholder management skills; and
  • excellent time management skills.

Relevant tertiary qualifications and professional body registration are required as well as a current Working with Children Check.
