Sathya Sai College is located on the NSW North Coast. We are a non-religious school that teaches a values-based education. We are continuing to build our reputation in the local community. the Primary School, K to year 6, is currently operating at capacity and the Secondary School, years 7 to 12, is expanding. 

Our educational philosophy is based on integrating the five human values (love, truth, peace, right-conduct and non-violence) into all subject areas. We focus on a holistic education and students are encouraged to pursue both academic excellence and character development. All programs align with the NESA syllabus and in addition to Education in Human Values, we also encourage students to be involved in service and leadership activities.  

Our Primary Campus is in the town of Murwillumbah, a 7-minute drive from our rural Secondary Campus in Dungay. We have so far operated on a single-stream model at the Primary since the inception in 1997. The double stream is being introduced at the Secondary campus to year 7 next year.

Temporary: 6 school term contract with extension if grant funding continued
Start Date: 17th October 2022 or earlier by negotiation

Job Description:

  • This part time contract position (0.5 FTE) incorporates visiting both the Primary and Secondary campuses to provide appropriate counselling services. 
  • This position collaborates with Teachers, Coordinators, Leadership Team and other staff to contribute to the students’ academic excellence and character development.
  • Through building relationships with parents, other internal services and external providers, the Counsellor both proactively upskills key stakeholders as well as provides triaged counselling support to students where needed.  

The selection criteria: –

  • hold a Diploma of Counselling and/or Psychology qualifications. 
  •  understand the social, emotional,and behavioural dynamics of co-educational students in the K – 12 years age group.
  • build trust and rapport with students, families and colleagues in an educational setting. 
  •  understand confidential and professional boundaries within the scope of counselling practices in a school environment. 
  • select and use appropriately, a wide range of counselling and support strategies to suit the emotional and psychological needs of a diverse range of students. 
  •  navigate multiple stakeholders including students, their parents and caregivers, teachers, leadership and others. 
  • possess excellent interpersonal skills and can communicate sensitively and confidentially with students, parents and other staff. 
  • embrace opportunities to reflect upon your professional practice and further develop your own skills and knowledge across a variety of different areas. 
  •  value contributing to diverse and inclusive communities and accept the responsibility to uphold the Sathya Sai College values of Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct and Non-Violence. 
  • Valid Working With Children Check number provided with the application for verification by the school.

The position is for a period of 6 school terms, commencing Term 4 of 2022 to the completion of Term 1 2024 on a temporary contract. This position is funded by a grant and if the grant is not extended beyond Term 1 2024, the position will be made redundant. The successful candidate will commence on Monday 17th October term 4, 2022.
