School Focused Youth Services Coordinator Yarra Ranges Council

JOB DESCRIPTION

About the role

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people? Do you believe in the power of education and want to help vulnerable students stay connected to their schooling? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a School Focused Youth Services Coordinator.

Yarra Ranges Council, in partnership with the Department of Education and Training (DE&T), is committed to supporting young people aged 10-18 years who are at risk of disengagement from education. As the School Focused Youth Services Coordinator, you will work collaboratively with schools and community organisations to provide targeted support and interventions to help these students remain connected to education.

As a School Focused Youth Services Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and implementing the School Focused Youth Services program. This includes overseeing the governance and compliance aspects of the program, ensuring effective planning, and monitoring of activities, and maintaining accountability for outcomes.

You will work closely with schools and community organisations to build their capacity in supporting vulnerable students. This may involve delivering training and workshops, providing guidance on best practices, and fostering strong partnerships to enhance the support network for young people.

You will identify and engage with young people who are showing signs of disengagement from education. Through targeted interventions, you will provide individualised support, mentoring, and advocacy to help them overcome barriers and stay connected to their schooling.

What you’ll bring to our team

  • Relevant qualifications and experience in youth work, education, social work, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people and the factors that contribute to disengagement from education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with young people, schools, and community organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and implement youth-focused programs or initiatives.
  • Sound knowledge of governance, compliance, and accountability frameworks within the education sector.
  • A passion for making a difference in the lives of young people and a commitment to their well-being and educational success.

Why you’ll love working with us

At Yarra Ranges Council, we offer truly flexible working arrangements, including the option for in-office and remote work. This means you can enjoy the best of both worlds: the support and collaboration of a team-based environment, as well as the freedom and flexibility of working from home.

  • Grant funded part-time position (22.8 hours per week) until December 31, 2023.
  • Hourly rate from $45.70 (Band 6), plus 11% superannuation.

Why Wait? Take the next step in your career and apply now!

To apply, please attach a Cover Letter outlining your experience, skills and why you would like to join our team, along with a copy of your Resume.

We value transferrable skills, not just experience and qualifications. We know that successful candidates may not possess every qualification, yet they bring the right transferrable skills, attitude, and our values. We encourage you to apply, even if you don’t meet all the job criteria, as you can leverage your lived experience and skills in a way that helps us see your potential.
