School Wellbeing Student Engagement Worker Rowville Secondary College

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role of School Wellbeing Student Engagement Worker is to provide support to whole school and targeted initiatives for mental health promotion and wellbeing interventions at Rowville Secondary College.

Key activities: Internal and external responsibilities

  • Advocate, consult with staff, family and community members to create an inclusive environment 
  • Implement prevention and early intervention therapeutic group work and whole school wellbeing programs
  • Help young people to increase their self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills and healthy coping skills, resolve conflicts, and manage behavior
  • Advocate and co-ordinate support for students’ mental health needs, including liaison with external specialist organisations
  • Critical incident management, provision of psychological first aid and monitoring of recovery
  • Reconnecting students who are disengaged from school
  • Provision of individual early intervention counselling for students with social concerns and emerging mental health problems.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments identifying barriers to student wellbeing, learning and engagement

Selection Criteria 

  1. A strong understanding of the challenging problems young people face with experience in working with students and their families to address mental health issues;
  2. Evidence of an ability to develop and implement early intervention wellbeing programs;
  3. Evidence of ability to help young people to increase their self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills and healthy coping skills, resolve conflicts, and manage behavior;
  4. Highly developed communication, networking, interpersonal and teamwork skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people within the school and wider community;
  5. Demonstrated experience in assessing, conceptualising and analysing wellbeing issues, and providing evidence-based direct counselling for a range of mental health issues.
  6. Excellent organisational and administrative skills; and understanding of school systems and best practices; 
  7. Have an understanding of DEET policies procedures in regard to mandatory reporting and information sharing.

  • Individuals with an undergraduate degree in social work, social welfare, community development, or youth work.

 

There are two part time positions available  

(ES1 3)- Education Support Class Level 1 Range 3 

Commencing at step one  $69 901 (Full Time Equivalent).
