Seasonal Worker Liaison Officer MADEC Employment and Training

JOB DESCRIPTION

MADEC is an approved employer within the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme. Through the PALM scheme, MADEC employs workers from nine pacific islands and Timor-Leste to perform work in unskilled, low-skilled and semi-skilled positions where there are not enough local workers. We currently have over 3,000 workers per annum working in horticulture, fisheries, meatworks and hospitality, and this is set to expand further.

About the Job
The aim of this position is to provide support to our workers who will be working in the horticultural industry in the Devonport area. You will be the workers point of contact and will provide care and support to ensure they assimilate into their local environment, the workplace, and to build skills required for independent living in a new country. Each day will be different, but your core responsibilities will include:

  • Addressing worker enquiries which will be varied, and assisting workers to build skills to resolve their concerns independently;
  • Building trust and strong relationships with worker to ensure any matters of concern are understood and addressed;
  • Assisting workers with access to services required (eg; medical);
  • Acting as a communication conduit between workers, our client (the host employer) and MADEC; and
  • Identifying any risks to worker wellbeing and escalate as required.
     

This position is also not your typical 9am to 5pm role as you will be required to be flexible with your working hours and available for out of hours work, including weekends. 

About You
You will have excellent communication skills, and a passion for getting the best out of relationships, through a person-centred approach to your work. You have a genuine desire to help others, along with patience and cultural sensitivity to assist in ensuring you build effective connections with our workers. Ideally, you will be familiar with the local area and have an understanding of the horticultural industry. You will be required to have a valid drivers licence, and a police check for this role. Previous experience within seasonal worker program, labour hire or  horticultural sector will be highly regarded.

Our Benefits

You will be provided with a vehicle for work use, mobile phone, and laptop. We recognise that this job is varied and may have unusual working hours and as such, you be paid a salary of $65,000.
