About the role

The Senior Carer Consultant – GMHWS Lived Experience Workforce will be responsible for the direct supervision and management of our carer lived experience grade 3 team members and appointed as one of the lived and living experience Team Leaders to manage a team of lived experience workers. The Senior Carer Consultant of the Lived Experience Workforce is one of the pivotal links between the Lived Experience Workforce and the Leadership team, and will be expected to contribute positively to the future development of GMHWS and/or policy directions from the Department of Health and Human Services. This role will be particularly important as GMHWS works towards the implementation of the Recommendations from the Mental Reform Royal Commission.

The Senior Carer Consultant will:

  • Supervise and co-ordinate daily operational requirements of the carer consultant Lived Experience Workforce in collaboration with the relevant clinical team managers
  • Motivate the lived experience workforce in the provision of problem-solving, education and research as required by their respective work areas
  • Contribute to the development of and adherence to organisational governance processes which underpin the delivery of high-quality mental health services
  • Participate in and lead various audit and continuous improvement activities from a Lived Experience perspective

Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria. Qualifications, knowledge, experience and abilities are listed in order of importance.
  • Personal lived experience as a family member, carer or support person for someone experiencing mental distress/illness and/or substance misuse.
  • A well-developed understanding of contemporary trends and issues regarding mental health services from a lived experience perspective
  • Experience in the supervision of others
  • Previous experience in a carer lived experience role
