About the Role:

Are you a Counsellor with a passion for AOD and mental health? Are you looking for a senior role in an alcohol and other drugs team?

  • As the Senior Counsellor for the Goldfields Alcohol and Other Drugs Service (GCADS) you will work within a harm reduction framework to develop individual treatment and support plans to address concurrent comorbidities, in collaboration with clients, and other clinicians involved in their care.
  • As Senior Counsellor you will oversee the Counsellor/Educators and will also carry a case load working with clients to engage them in the service, providing education on the impact of drug and alcohol use, harm minimisation and treatment options.
  • As Senior Counsellor you will provide, trauma informed clinical care, brief interventions, and case management in collaboration with the client seeking to address drug and alcohol use and comorbid mental health issues.
  • The Senior Counsellor role will work in collaboration with the General Manager to support and guide the Counsellor Educators to ensure respectful support and effective interventions to people who experience alcohol and other drugs/ mental illness.
  • As the Senior Counsellor you will be working together with stakeholders at an organisational and community level in the Esperance region providing information and facilitating referral pathways, to resolve risk factors to mental health and wellbeing.

  • The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification in counselling, education, behavioural/social sciences, health/mental health or approved equivalent, as well as experience working in the AOD or Mental Health sector.
  • You will need to demonstrate that as a Senior Counsellor you have developed an understanding of the complex needs of clients who experience co-occurring AOD as well as the physical, mental, legal, and social impacts of alcohol and other drugs.

This role requires the following clearances:

  • National Police Clearance (no older than 3 months)
  • Working with Children Check,
  • Current unrestricted WA Driver’s licence
