What you’ll be doing

The Senior Manager Allied Health – Mental Health sits within the Mental Health Executive and reports to the Director Mental Health Services. This position is responsible for the leadership, governance and coordination of the Allied Health services across the Mental Health Service, acting as the key contact in Mental Health for Allied Health issues. The position will work closely with the Operations Manager Wollongong Specialist Services, Operations Manager Shellharbour/ Shoalhaven and the Mental Health, Director of Nursing and Clinical Director, ensuring clinical governance and professional standards for all Allied Health disciplines and Allied Health Heads of Discipline within ISLHD Mental Health Service.
As a member of the Senior Executive, the Senior Manager Allied Health – Mental Health will participate in and contribute to governance and strategic planning decisions in Mental Health.
 
The role is responsible for leading and providing support and governance to Allied Health clinicians across the Mental Health Service in collaboration with the Operations Managers and Clinical Director in the provision of:
• Integrated models of Care. 
• Excellent standards of professional practice.
• Professional development.
• Leadership that creates and promotes a culture that supports the CORE values of the ISLHD.
 
 
The Senior Manager Allied Health – Mental Health is responsible for professional, workforce development and industrial matters relating to Mental Health Allied Health services, and is responsible for advising on the planning and development needs of the Allied Health services from an organisational, and human resource perspective.

The Senior Manager Allied Health – Mental Health has a professional line to the ISLHD Executive Director Allied Health regarding the facilitation, coordination and clinical/professional governance and strategic planning of the Mental Health Allied Health services, and works in conjunction with Nurse Unit Managers/ Team Coordinators/ Service Managers to ensure quality consumer care and professional governance of Mental Health Service, Allied Health staff.

The Senior Manager Allied Health – Mental Health will:

• Maintain a standard of conduct which reflects the ISLHD Code of Conduct, and those of relevant professional codes.
• Set annual goals for the role in conjunction with the Director of Mental Health Services and ISLHD Executive Director Allied Health.
• Participate in own annual Personal Effectiveness and Development.
• Act as an advocate for consumers, carers and staff.
• Promote and support consumer involvement in decision making and care delivery.
• Ensure that the rights of the consumers are protected in all activities, including teaching and research, in accordance with legislation and professional codes of conduct.
 

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (3 doses for Category A roles, 2 doses for Category B roles) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Selection Criteria 

1. Recognised senior experience in Allied Health management across multiple disciplines and services.
2. Tertiary qualifications in Health Leadership, Business or Organisational Leadership and/or relevant experience.
3. Recent senior level experience managing strategic, complex workforce and operational aspects of Allied Health disciplines within a large Public Mental Health Service.
4. Demonstrated sound knowledge of current mental health clinical practice, governance and legislation guiding mental health service delivery within a large Public Mental Health Service.
5. Proven experience managing financial and activity targets in a large Public Mental Health Service.
6. Significant problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills with demonstrated capacity to achieve satisfactory agreed outcomes.
7. Demonstrated experience in workplace safety and risk management, including knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative and industrial processes.
8. Proven experience in facility and clinical service management across multiple sites with a strong focus on consumer safety and quality systems.
