Senior Mental Health Clinician – Child and Youth Phone Triage Barwon Health

Position Summary

  • Provide expert and timely mental health/AOD triages for infants, children & young people
  • Work across two shifts (rotating roster) between 0700 hours and 2200hours, 7 days a week

About the facility

The Child and Youth Triage Team is the initial point of contact where there are mental health, alcohol and / or other drug concerns about infants, children and young people, aged between 0-25 years. Whilst Barwon Health provide a 24-7 mental health triage service, the team operates across two shifts between 0700 hours and 2200hours, 7 days a week.

About you

  • Formal professionally recognised qualifications in Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or Clinical Psychology
  • Extensive clinical mental health experience, with confidence and competence in undertaking clinical assessments, risk assessments and / or acute mental health treatment interventions.
  • Sound knowledge of the objectives and provisions of the Victorian Mental Health Act (2014), and its amendments
  • Experience working in a mental health triage service

About the role

As the successful applicant, you will provide expert and timely mental health, alcohol and other drug triages to determine the most appropriate treatment and care pathways for infants, children and young people. Referrals are received in written and telephone form, with the triage process undertaken primarily by phone. The role is consumer focused and requires the highest standard of assistance through the provision of clinical advice, recommendations and referrals. You will demonstrate leadership in both the ongoing development of the phone triage service and support the manager with day to day operations of the team. Other duties of your role include but are not limited to;

  • Providing clinical supervision including discipline specific supervision to junior members of staff across MHDAS
  • Participating in discipline specific forums across MHDAS as appropriate
  • Providing orientation and mentorship to new staff within the team
  • Providing clinical mentorship and leadership to RPN3/AH2 clinicians within the Phone Triage team
