ABOUT THE ROLE

Strive Community Care provides therapeutic home environments for children and young people with histories of complex trauma, abuse and neglect. We utilise a strong Therapeutic Framework and unique CREATE Model of Care with a focus on establishing holistic safety. Children and young people are provided with a sense of family, support to heal, opportunity to positively connect with others, and rebuild their lives.

We are now looking for a Senior Therapeutic Care Worker in the Gympie Region to play a key role in supporting children and young persons in their healing journey through providing care in therapeutic homes. This is a Permanent-Part Time role that typically works Full-Time hours. 

These positions are required to work across 24/7 rotating rostered shifts, including sleepovers, weekends, and public holidays.

Duties of the successful applicant include:

  • Assisting the Therapeutic Program Manager with managerial administration tasks as required (up to 10 hours per week with the remainder spent on the floor)
  • Build and promote a positive and caring environment that supports the children/young people residing in our homes.
  • Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement
  • Maintain safety through effectively implementing Behaviour Support Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans.
  • Work with young people in a manner informed by attachment and trauma-informed care in line with our unique CREATE Model of Care.
  • Ensure all essential needs are met for the young person within the home such as providing a balanced diet, prompts with hygiene, support for school engagement, and creating positive life experiences.
  • Promote independent living skills including assistance with cooking, meal planning, budgeting, shopping, and maintaining a house and other daily living requirements.
  • Demonstrate an empathic understanding of complex trauma, incorporating this understanding into everyday interactions, as well as responding to pain-based behaviour in a sensitive and non-punitive way.
  • Mentor and coach children/young people to assist them to achieve their goals through the Strive Mentoring Program.
  • Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth
  • Assist and support children/young people to develop links and build their capacity to be part of their community.
  • Willingness to share the management on-call roster.
  • Willingness to Act in the Therapeutic Program Manager role when requested.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant/s will require the following Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience as a senior youth worker in residential OOHC or significant experience as a youth worker in residential OOHC (experience in working with young people with complex trauma is ideal)
  • Completed, or working towards a minimum Certificate IV qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science, Counselling) is essential.
  • Current HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent is essential.
  • Valid unrestricted Australian drivers licence
  • Experience in developing case plans/safety plans/behaviour support plans, case noting and report writing is desirable.Aside from attractive hourly rates, Strive offers a robust training induction program, monthly supervision, has a focus on supporting the wellbeing of staff, and provides ongoing professional development opportunities.
