  • Part-time 0.8, Fixed-term contract until 30/06/2024
  • Based in Elizabeth
  • Support humanitarian entrants and other vulnerable migrants in their first five years in Australia.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual that has a strong passion about making a difference within the community. You will equip and empower newly arrived humanitarian entrants and vulnerable migrants to achieve sustainable settlement within the community using a strengths-based and client-focussed approach. The successful candidate will be joining a supportive team of innovative, passionate professionals who strongly believe in the work that they do. 

What can you expect to be doing?

You will provide support to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) clients that have been in Australia for less than 5 years. The objective of the program is to assist and empower eligible clients to build the skills and knowledge they need to address their identified settlement needs so they can become self-reliant and active members of our society. This includes working with other targeted refugee and migrant services and mainstream services to facilitate acquisition of services such as English language skills, education and training, build employment readiness skills, improve social participation, enhance community connectedness, and access mainstream services.

This role will also require you to work alongside and support women in situations of domestic and family violence. This includes but is not limited to:

·        Identify women (who are new arrivals to Australia within 5 years) in situations of family violence and tailor services accordingly to their needs

·        providing group information sessions and/or other educational initiatives or programs covering topics relevant to reduction/prevention of DFV among newly arrived communities

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification (degree level) in Human Services or equivalent.

What do you need to bring?

  • Extensive practical experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
  • Proficiency in another language in addition to English (desirable)
  • Sound understanding of the issues and sensitivities faced by newly arrived communities
  • Experience in case management, using a strengths based approach to develop client’s life skills
  • Understanding of community development and engagement
  • A client-focussed approach that is flexible, solution orientated and values diversity
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with key service partners
