About the Organisation

The Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (DYHS) was established in 1974 and is the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health service provider in Western Australia, providing care to over 20,000 Aboriginal patients across four clinics in East Perth, Mirrabooka, Maddington and Midland.

Our staff enable the delivery of culturally responsive primary health services, focusing on prevention, early intervention, comprehensive care and care coordination including chronic disease management. 

About the Role

The Social and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator (SEWB) provides strategic and clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of SEWB programs and services across Derbarl Yerrigan Health Services (DYHS) clinics. 

 

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Clinical Leadership:

  • Provide professional and culturally appropriate leadership and governance to the team including clinical and professional supervision and ensuring clinical practice meets relevant clinical and professional standards;
  • Ensure a daily understanding of each team members case load and provide immediate debrief and support when necessary;
  • Alert the Medical Team Leader and Medical Director of potential risks and areas of concern as they arise;
  • In collaboration with the Medical Team Leader, respond to current and emerging funding opportunities and reforms that contribute to Derbarl strategic priorities and needs of the local Aboriginal community;
  • Develop high quality correspondence, reports on Service Agreements/ Funding Contracts for the provision and attainment of Key Performance Indicators (KPI);
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets, ensure SEWB operate within approved budget allocations and monitor Medicare generation for MBS billing health professionals;
  • Facilitate internal training and knowledge sharing sessions for all counsellors and colleagues in consultation with the Medical Team Leader;
  • Identify risks, such as vicarious trauma, to the DYHS Counsellors and ensure that immediate action is taken to mitigate the risk and support all counsellors;
  • Proactively identify and meet with dependent and complimentary agencies, services and organisation’s to promote an understanding of and enhance the DYHS brand;
  • Proactively keep up to date with research, literature, reviews as well as international and local best practice, to provide input to improvement of the services that DYHS provides.

 

We’re seeking candidates, with the following:

  1. Relevant qualifications in Psychology, mental health nursing or social work, with appropriate registrations with professional bodies (e.g. AHPRA);
  2. Knowledge, skills and experience in counselling techniques and processes appropriate to working with a diverse range of complex trauma related issues;
  3. Awareness of/sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, knowledge of current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people and a willingness to incorporate Aboriginal values into clinical practice;
  4. Demonstrated experience providing clinical supervision and support;
  5. Ability to work with flexibility in responding to individual and family needs;
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  7. An ability to develop effective working relationships with other service providers;
  8. Availability to work outside of normal business hours from time to time;
  9. Current WA “C” class driver’s licence;
  10. A National Police Clearance that is not older than 2 years and maintained every 3 years;
  11. Fully Covid-19 Vaccinated.

The Benefits:

A salary of circa $150,000 are on offer for the right candidate.

In addition, as a public benevolent institution, DYHS offers salary packaging up to $15,900. Other entitlements include study leave, long service leave after 7 years, 12 days of personal leave per year, NAIDOC Day holiday and professional development opportunities.
