 The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marks as a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrate it’s 50-year of providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, and social services for our community. 

 As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity 

The SEWB Outreach Worker will work in a collaborative and adaptable role, directly with the Balit Djerring Team members, under the direction and combined effort of the Balit Djerring Team Leader.  

 

Key Selection Criteria 

To be considered for this role you must have the following. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable client groups, including the provision of holistic support services and addressing general client needs. 
  • Proven well developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Working knowledge of the mental health and drug and alcohol service system and the range of treatment options available.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal communication skills, confidentiality and record keeping.
  • Demonstrated appreciation, understanding of, and sensitivity to, Aboriginal cultural values and approaches to mental health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB)
  • Experience in creating and maintaining accurate and up to date case notes.
  • Well-developed skills in the theory and application of a range of counselling and treatment orientations.  Demonstrated understanding of a holistic approach to mental health
  • Capacity to work under pressure and develop creative and flexible solutions to complex problems
  • Fully approved Covid 19 Vaccinations (including booster)
