The Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Worker will work closely with Oonah staff and other service providers to develop and implement a Culturally appropriate, integrated and locally based model for mental health services. The focus will be on supporting Aboriginal people with mental health issues to receive appropriate services and support to assist in their recovery.

The SEWB Outreach Worker will report to the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator. This position is full time contract role for 12 months and may be extended depending on funding.

This hands-on role is well suited to a person with the following skills and attributes:

  • Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to deal with a diverse, and often competing, range of expectations and Community needs;
  • Able to work effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities & services; and
  • Experience in developing internal & external networks and partnering with communities in order to seek collaborative solutions.

Essential 

  • Current government mandated vaccinations
  • Demonstrated competency in using databases and Microsoft Office programs (Word and Excel)
  • Right to Work in Australia
  • Experience in communicating and engaging with the Aboriginal Community and families.
  • Current Working With Children Check or ability to obtain before commencement
  • Current Police Check or ability to obtain before commencement
  • Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain one
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Advanced knowledge coordinating and implementing quality programs that address mental health issues.
  • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Care (Practice) or working towards, OR a tertiary qualification in health, social, or behavioral science

  • Able to work effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities & services and experienced in developing internal and external networks and partnering with communities in order to seek collaborative solutions.
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of mental health issues and the impacts on people and families.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Well-developed problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making abilities.
  • 1Energetic, innovative self-starter who can work well as part of a team, and also work independently when required with a genuine interest in how best health and Community services can meet the needs of the Aboriginal Community.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid OR ASIST Applied Suicide Intervention Training

There are 3 positions available including roles with a Youth Support focus and Storm Recovery and Preparedness
